The Simple Way to Straighten Teeth Without Metal Brackets
Why Invisalign for Teens?
Does your teenager need orthodontic treatment but dread spending their high school years as a “brace face”? They already have enough on their plate without having to feel anxiety over their smiles, which is why Invisalign for teens is the perfect solution. With Invisalign for teens, they can get the beautiful, healthy aligned smile they deserve without any brackets and wires.
Advantages of Invisalign for Teens
Aside from stealthily straightening smiles, Invisalign for teens has several advantages over traditional braces. Because they are removable, there’s no banned foods list! Your teen will be free to enjoy all their favorite treats without worrying that it could compromise their orthodontic treatment, and they can brush and floss normally instead of having to clean around all that hardware.
As an added advantage for parents, each Invisalign Teen aligner has a blue indicator that fades over time if your teen is wearing them as often as directed, so you can make sure they’re staying on track with their treatment!
The Daily Invisalign Experience
For the first few days of each stage of your teen’s Invisalign treatment, they may feel minor discomfort as their teeth get used to the added pressure, similar to what traditional braces patients experience after adjustments. This is perfectly normal and a sign that the aligners are doing their job.
The difference is that with Invisalign, they may be tempted to take the aligners off to relieve the pressure. Encourage them to resist that temptation, because it will delay their results! They should wear their aligners at all times during treatment, except during meals and snacks and while brushing and flossing their teeth. Wearing them less often will make the treatment take longer.
Potential patients often ask if Invisalign will make it difficult to speak clearly. Most Invisalign patients experience very little difficulty with speaking clearly while wearing their aligners, but there will likely be an adjustment period as you get used to having them in your mouth.
Caring for Your Invisalign Trays
To clean the aligners, brush and rinse them in lukewarm water and use Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or special cleaning tablets. Make sure your teen is also brushing and flossing after each meal before re-inserting their aligners.
One of the best advantages of Invisalign over traditional wire braces is that there is no banned foods list! As long as your teen is brushing and flossing before putting their aligners back in, they can enjoy all your favorite foods without compromising their orthodontic treatment!
Gum can stick to the aligners, so it’s not a good idea to chew it while they’re in. Make sure your child knows to take their aligners out for all meals and snacks. We also discourage smoking (or vaping) during Invisalign treatment, as it can stain and discolor the aligners, as well as put the smoker at risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
Why Invisalign Over Other Products?
Invisalign for teens is an excellent choice for orthodontic treatment. It is a trusted brand in invisible aligners, and teens love the freedom of being able to take their aligners out to eat and brush their teeth. They can even view their virtual treatment plan before beginning and get a preview of what their smiles will look like at the end!
Retainers After Invisalign
Retainers are crucial at the end of any orthodontic treatment — whether it’s with Invisalign for teens or traditional wire braces — because it takes time for teeth to get used to their new positions. It’s essential to wear retainers as directed by the doctor.
How Dr. Raineri Orthodontics Can Help
For those patients that do not want traditional braces, Dr. Raineri recommends Invisalign. Invisalign doesn’t work for all types of orthodontic problems, but it’s an excellent solution for patients with dental crowding or other alignment problems if they would prefer not to get traditional braces.
