The Perfect Alternative to Traditional Braces
Everyone knows that straight, perfectly aligned teeth are essential to a beautiful smile. Unfortunately, the inconvenience associated with traditional metal braces keeps many patients from improving their teeth. Invisalign is virtually invisible, includes no metal, and is custom-made for your unique teeth.
What is Invisalign?
Align Technology, a California company, created Invisalign. It is a teeth-straightening treatment that uses clear and removable plastic trays called aligners. These aligners are made of smooth, flexible plastic and are sturdy and far more comfortable than traditional bracket and wire braces.
Invisalign helps straighten your teeth and improve your smile. It is very effective and far less restrictive than traditional braces. Follow this link to learn more.
How Does Invisalign Work?
The series of soft plastic aligners fit perfectly over your teeth to gradually straighten your smile. There are no metal wires or brackets to irritate your mouth! You can remove your Invisalign aligners during your at-home oral hygiene routines and while eating your favorite meals. Unlike traditional braces, brushing and flossing are not complicated, and you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love.
What does Invisalign treatment involve?
Dr. Raineri will first devise an initial treatment plan. 3D digital images are taken of the jaw. These images allow the orthodontist to move teeth on the screen and view the jaw from all angles. This incredible modern technology foresees how Invisalign trays will change facial aesthetics once treatment is finished.
Once planning is complete, a set of aligners is made uniquely to fit only your mouth. Treatment times vary on each case, but the total number of aligners required is usually between 20 and 29 sets per arch.
Life with Invisalign
Life with Invisalign may take a few weeks to get used to. The trays need to be worn constantly, except while eating and drinking. It is imperative to remove the trays when consuming food or drink to avoid getting debris trapped between the trays and your teeth, causing tooth decay. Read here for more information.
Be aware that there will be a bit of soreness for the first few days after each new tray. This light achy feeling is good news as it proves that your trays are doing their job by moving your teeth into the desired positions.
How long do you wear Invisalign?
Dr. Raineri requires you to wear your aligners for the recommended time of 22 hours per day. Not following this order will cause problems in the overall treatment time.
How do I care for my Invisalign?
Though you don’t wear aligner trays while you eat, they still need to be cleaned. It is best to clean your aligners twice per day by brushing them like you would your teeth. It only takes a couple of minutes to brush with a toothbrush and water gently.
It is best to rinse the aligners each time you take them out to reduce bacteria buildup. And please avoid running them under hot water, as extreme temperatures can warp the plastic.
Do you wear Invisalign when you sleep?
It is imperative to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day. So, yes, this includes when you are sleeping.
Will Invisalign Affect My Speech?
Most patients experience a very slight lisp right at the beginning of treatment that disappears within a couple of days. If you continue to wear the aligners while talking, your speech will adjust more quickly.
How long does it take to start seeing results from Invisalign?
Some patients may start to notice results in as little as two weeks. Other patients may need to wait three months to see an improvement in their smile. If you can’t see the transformation in the mirror, try taking photos of your smile before each new set of aligners. When you set these photos side-by-side, you should be able to see the changes much easier.
